Television's No. 1 new drama, The Good Doctor, has been given a full-season order, Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment, said today.
"We are thrilled to announce that we are giving our viewers additional episodes of The Good Doctor," said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. "We have an amazing team in front of and behind the camera, led by Freddie Highmore's incredibly nuanced performance as Dr. Shaun Murphy, and we're confident the show will continue to captivate our audience."
Season to date, The Good Doctor ranks as Monday's No. 1 drama broadcast show in Adults 18-49 and in Total Viewers, improving the 10 o'clock hour for ABC by 50%. The new ABC drama is also the biggest gainer in TV playback, with its debut telecast jumping by 5.5 million viewers making it the biggest debut for any new series on any network in 3 years. After 3 days of TV playback, ABC's new drama grew to 16.9 million Total Viewers from the 11.4 million in Live + Same Day and a 3.7 rating with Adults 18-49 from a 2.2 in Live + Same Day.
The Good Doctor is about Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who relocates from a quiet country life to join the prestigious St. Bonaventure hospital's surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, his only advocate, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff), challenges the skepticism and prejudices of the hospital's board and staff when he brings him in to join the team. Shaun will need to work harder than he ever has before, as he navigates his new environment and relationships to prove to his colleagues that his extraordinary medical gifts will save lives.
"The Good Doctor" airs Mondays at 10:00 p.m. ET on The ABC Television Network.
The series stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne, Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neil Melendez, Chuku Modu as Dr. Jared Kalu, Beau Garrett as Jessica Preston, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman and Tamlyn Tomita as Allegra Aoki.
The series is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios. David Shore is writer and executive producer. Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers. ____________________
Anyone watch?
I am addicted to the series, because of Freddie Highmore. I think he's brilliant in the role of a young surgeon battling the effects of autism and savant syndrome. I first saw Freddie as a young boy in AUGUST RUSH the movie and he was brilliant in that as well.

Last night's episode (10/28) was a repeat!
Sadly, this is just what happens sometimes with major network TV shows. With just 18 or so episodes in a season that needs to stretch from September to May, shows like The Good Doctor will take occasional breaks to make up that time. Sometimes, these breaks are planned around major cultural events (like the World Series) or periods of historically low viewership (i.e. around the holidays), but sometimes they're just scattered periodically throughout the season.
I noticed that Flipe4u,and decided to go to bed. Toby gets me up every night about 2 AM because he wants to eat and be let outside. It was a good excuse to retire early.

Pretty good episode. I was trying to figure out which doctor was walking downstairs to console Dr. Brown. I was right.

OK, the writers need to step it up! Last night's episode left much to be desired. Wasn't a fan at all of the story line.

Oh Wow! I'd hate to see the show get cancelled because Freddy is great; BUT... it's beginning to get too corny and dumb ); (IMHO)

Yes, it is corny and dumb at times. The whole cast is great, but love Freddie.
I can't figure out this thing with Carly. It was appearing he had more feelings for Leah, and then they did just the opposite with the story line. It was as if he was afraid to lose Carly if he didn't commit to her. And he felt like he didn't have a chance with Leah romantically.

I watch it. At times it bothers me how they portray or have the behaviors of Freddie I believe it is. But I will see how it goes. I watch it on Hulu so not sure what season they are on.

Becky, Freddie's character has "Savant Syndrome" as well. I don't know if that accounts for his behavior, too?

I watched a couple yesterday and the thing is I know with my kids they are too trusting. So I have to be careful what they do and who they talk to. One episode where he has a new neighbor (not sure what season it is or episode) but the guy looks like someone you should not trust. Anyway, it drove me nuts. I yelled at the TV several times before my husband finally turned it off. LOL It is not in their brain to not trust so I just saw what they were doing and I just could not handle it. I watch it but there are parts where I just skip over.

That story line about the neighbor actually turned out all right. Can't remember if it was season 1 or 2?

From the previews of the finale a character is being killed off.
One writer thinks it's Melendez, but can't see them killing him off. If they do I will be upset. Claire reveals that she loves him to her therapist. I think Melendez has feelings for her, too, but is denying it to himself, at this point.
I think it's Lea. I think her character has run it's course. Shaun went off on Lea, and I feel he was cruel. He can control himself during surgeries, but goes off on her, when she has a right to tell him the truth that she doesn't feel the same. Shaun will regret his actions toward her. That's my guess anyway.
The other strong possibility is MORGAN. She has rheumatoid arthritis,so a way to write her out.
I could be all wet on both, but we'll see.

Not really he was taking advantage of Shawn and his trust in him.

I think it is Leah as well. It would hit Shawn much worse than any other character. I am getting to the point where I hate Morgan. I would love to see her go but I think with Shawn it would be Leah.
