Television's No. 1 new drama, The Good Doctor, has been given a full-season order, Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment, said today.
"We are thrilled to announce that we are giving our viewers additional episodes of The Good Doctor," said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. "We have an amazing team in front of and behind the camera, led by Freddie Highmore's incredibly nuanced performance as Dr. Shaun Murphy, and we're confident the show will continue to captivate our audience."
Season to date, The Good Doctor ranks as Monday's No. 1 drama broadcast show in Adults 18-49 and in Total Viewers, improving the 10 o'clock hour for ABC by 50%. The new ABC drama is also the biggest gainer in TV playback, with its debut telecast jumping by 5.5 million viewers making it the biggest debut for any new series on any network in 3 years. After 3 days of TV playback, ABC's new drama grew to 16.9 million Total Viewers from the 11.4 million in Live + Same Day and a 3.7 rating with Adults 18-49 from a 2.2 in Live + Same Day.
The Good Doctor is about Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who relocates from a quiet country life to join the prestigious St. Bonaventure hospital's surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, his only advocate, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff), challenges the skepticism and prejudices of the hospital's board and staff when he brings him in to join the team. Shaun will need to work harder than he ever has before, as he navigates his new environment and relationships to prove to his colleagues that his extraordinary medical gifts will save lives.
"The Good Doctor" airs Mondays at 10:00 p.m. ET on The ABC Television Network.
The series stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne, Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neil Melendez, Chuku Modu as Dr. Jared Kalu, Beau Garrett as Jessica Preston, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman and Tamlyn Tomita as Allegra Aoki.
The series is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios. David Shore is writer and executive producer. Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers. ____________________
Anyone watch?
I am addicted to the series, because of Freddie Highmore. I think he's brilliant in the role of a young surgeon battling the effects of autism and savant syndrome. I first saw Freddie as a young boy in AUGUST RUSH the movie and he was brilliant in that as well.

That story line about the neighbor actually turned out all right. Can't remember if it was season 1 or 2?
Not really he was taking advantage of Shawn and his trust in him. You have the advantage on that episode, Becky. I haven't seen it since it was on 2 or 3 years ago.

I thought that too Flipe4u, but I'm thinking that's what they want us to think. I wonder if Lea is coming to the realization that she loves Shaun? All the tears made me think that. I also think Morgan could be the one that dies. TPTB could shock us all and it could be someone entirely different.

What a TEAR JERKER it was last night. I did have that expectation with Shaun and Lea and I am happy about that. But, NOT who we lost. That's all I will say for now.

This is the latest and renewed for Season 4: The Good Doctor's current season comes to an end on March 30, with one cast member hinted to die in the second part of the season's climactic two-parter. Things might be over for one character, but the show is set to continue, with ABC renewing the series for Season 4 in February 2020.18 hours ago

Excellent post, Dazzal; great articles I was so bummed last night losing Melendez. I won't miss Carly, though, ...but she was a good actress.

Thanks Flipe. I was bummed as well losing a great character like Melendez. I know TPTB do this from time to time getting rid of a main character, but why him? So many fans loved him. I can't figure out their thinking. I won't miss Carly either and yes she was a good actress. I thought she looked too old or too mature for Shaun.

I agree.. she looked to old for Sean. Maybe Melendez wanted out... I know the article didn't state that, but who knows what goes on behind closed doors.

That's true Flipe. He might have gotten a good offer for a movie or series.

I saw it. I guess every show I watch from now on will be about the pandemic. The Connors, Superstore,The Good Doctor etc. Im sorry. I dont want to complain. I watch tv to escape reality and the chaos of this world. I guess its all about the ratings.
Other than that It was a good episode. I dont know what to think about the ending.

i get why you don't want to watch the shows, but come on it's stuff to write about, and all that, maybe not with the good doctor, but with well the connors keep in mind that they have written alot of stuff, that is already true to life, like killing off rosanne, to a drug OD, and all that, and then there's what's her face, and dealing with a baby and having to marry her husband, because he got kicked out of the country....now that's true to life, it happens to alot of people...so
there it is...
do i really want to watch it, no, i don't, but it is giving them something to write about, and it's a time and a place, and well i'd rather they not ignore it that it never happened
the show that i was looking forward to coming back, well i'm not sure i want to watch it after all, anyway because it looks cheesy as all get out....so
there you are
i would rather them handle it true to life, then not handle it at all.

Susan, I have a hard time following what you just wrote above. If you don't care for "The Good Doctor" then that's fine. This thread is to discuss that show, and that's why I included you, because I thought you watched it.

'Good Doctor' actor Richard Schiff taken off oxygen amid coronavirus hospitalization: 'Cautiously optimistic'
The actor and his wife, Sheila Kelley, tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month. The "Good Doctor" star announced Monday he was hospitalized after contracting COVID-19 earlier this month. Both he and his wife, Sheila Kelley, tested positive.
The 65-year-old took to Twitter on Wednesday to share an update with fans on his health. Kelley later said her husband's battle had been particularly difficult.
(I didn't know "Dr. Glassman" is married in real life to "Debbie Wexler"!)
