Television's No. 1 new drama, The Good Doctor, has been given a full-season order, Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment, said today.
"We are thrilled to announce that we are giving our viewers additional episodes of The Good Doctor," said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. "We have an amazing team in front of and behind the camera, led by Freddie Highmore's incredibly nuanced performance as Dr. Shaun Murphy, and we're confident the show will continue to captivate our audience."
Season to date, The Good Doctor ranks as Monday's No. 1 drama broadcast show in Adults 18-49 and in Total Viewers, improving the 10 o'clock hour for ABC by 50%. The new ABC drama is also the biggest gainer in TV playback, with its debut telecast jumping by 5.5 million viewers making it the biggest debut for any new series on any network in 3 years. After 3 days of TV playback, ABC's new drama grew to 16.9 million Total Viewers from the 11.4 million in Live + Same Day and a 3.7 rating with Adults 18-49 from a 2.2 in Live + Same Day.
The Good Doctor is about Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who relocates from a quiet country life to join the prestigious St. Bonaventure hospital's surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, his only advocate, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff), challenges the skepticism and prejudices of the hospital's board and staff when he brings him in to join the team. Shaun will need to work harder than he ever has before, as he navigates his new environment and relationships to prove to his colleagues that his extraordinary medical gifts will save lives.
"The Good Doctor" airs Mondays at 10:00 p.m. ET on The ABC Television Network.
The series stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne, Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neil Melendez, Chuku Modu as Dr. Jared Kalu, Beau Garrett as Jessica Preston, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman and Tamlyn Tomita as Allegra Aoki.
The series is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios. David Shore is writer and executive producer. Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers. ____________________
Anyone watch?
I am addicted to the series, because of Freddie Highmore. I think he's brilliant in the role of a young surgeon battling the effects of autism and savant syndrome. I first saw Freddie as a young boy in AUGUST RUSH the movie and he was brilliant in that as well.

i get why you don't want to watch the shows, but come on it's stuff to write about, and all that, maybe not with the good doctor, but with well the connors keep in mind that they have written alot of stuff, that is already true to life, like killing off rosanne, to a drug OD, and all that, and then there's what's her face, and dealing with a baby and having to marry her husband, because he got kicked out of the country....now that's true to life, it happens to alot of people...so there it is... do i really want to watch it, no, i don't, but it is giving them something to write about, and it's a time and a place, and well i'd rather they not ignore it that it never happened the show that i was looking forward to coming back, well i'm not sure i want to watch it after all, anyway because it looks cheesy as all get out....so there you are i would rather them handle it true to life, then not handle it at all. Susan Susan, I never said I didn't want to watch the shows I mentioned. There are way more stories out there to be written about than cashing in on this pandemic. Imo it is adding to the chaos and I stay away from chaos due to my anxiety and depression. Again,TV is supposed to be an escape for me but it only frustrates me more because like in real life tv land is way too opinionated and judgemental. I love The Good Doctor and will continue to watch it as I am a fan of Freddie Highmore.

One point I can say in favor of the episodes with COVID-19 is that it seemed more real to me. I don't have family members experiencing it (not yet) nor have I seen it around me. It appeared to me that it's a devastating death/loss. It brought more awareness to me.
I also can see that many of us like to escape from it as well and not see episodes about the Coronavirus. It's all we hear about in the news.

I agree Dazzal,...it did bring more awareness but I didn't need tv shows to demonstrate that. I do appreciate all the essential and front line workers as well. I was watching the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy which was about the virus and saw the toll it took on the hospital workers. All I can do is continue to pray.

That was a tearjerker last night, at least for me. Do you like the new residents? What do you think about Morgan and Alex living together? Is it the inevitable? Mari Flipe4u @dove, Beckea, Becky, I know you don't like Morgan character. Do you like her on the Hallmark movies? I do!
A little info. on the new residents under Dr. Shaun Murphy. www.tvinsider.com/953356/the-good-doctor-season-4-new-doctors/

I havent had a chance to see the new episode. I dont have live tv and have to wait for Hulu app to make it available the next day. I do think it is too early for me to decide on the new residents.

Yes, great episode last night! Casting made sure they were diverse in their intern choices. I still don't like Morgan... the writers must want that! I don't see romance btwn her and Alex, ugh! I don't even want to picture that kind of relationship. LOL! Love Lea & Shaun. Both are doing a superb job acting their parts. I hope something great for Claire is in the works... she's too talented to be left in the background.

I at your comment about Morgan and Alex. The reason why I like Morgan is that she spices up the show and she's good at making us hate her. I do think that Alex likes Morgan or he wouldn't have taken her up on her offer to live there. I love Lea and Shaun together. She is very patient with Shaun and seems to know how to relate to him. I agree about Claire.
I think Dr. Asher Wolke is a very good actor. The resident that lost his patient last night.

I enjoyed tonight's episode, but I have to say I laughed my head off when Lea was doing surgery on Shaun's foot. Just a bit FARFETCHED!!! And is it me, or is Lea's clothes appearing dumpy? When she started on the show she was dressed really cute. Even before she was pregnant her clothes were baggy/dumpy looking. She's still a really cute gal.
What did you think Flipe4u,?

What did you think Flipe4u,? I thought it was the WORST episode they ever aired! Everything about the show last night, was HORRIBLE ~ off the charts TERRIBLE in every way.

Interesting, Dazzal, I didn't enjoy the finale... but the writers did well on Claire's departure. I agree, she was great in the role she played on this show.

The season premier last night was pretty good. Slightly boring but a great twisted ending. Kudos, writers!

Well, I don't know what it is... but this show isn't as great as it once was. Can't put my finger on it, maybe it's the 'newbie' cast ~ I don't know; but I'm not in love with it like I was. I still adore Dr. Shaun Murphy.

I didn't see last night's episode, as I can't stay up that late. I catch it ON DEMAND.
I adore Dr. Shaun Murphy, but IMO I feel he gets away with too much bad behavior. I realize he depicts the issues he has. In real life I don't think a hospital would tolerate some of the things that take place. Not just Shaun, but some of the other characters, too. Some of the story lines are silly. It's entertaining, but I agree, something is missing.
