I have a pretty extensive record collection including my Mom's 78 records featuring some fabulous black artists from back in the day. Sadly, many of these wonderful entertainers didn't get the respect they deserved and were made to enter the venues they were appearing at through the service entrance, particularly in the deep south. One Las Vegas hotel actually drained and disinfected their swimming pool because guests complained after seeing Sammy Davis Jr. use it.
I would like to pay tribute to some of these amazing people who contributed to the soundtrack of so many people's lives and whose work stands the test of time. Feel free to contribute to this thread.

I haven't heard of Mildred Bailey, that's a new singer for me. Foxy, I agree that Sammy Davis Jr. is one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Very under-rated! All videos are great to listen to.

I must confess, Mildred Bailey is new to me too Dazzal. I came across her while I was looking for another singer and after listening to several of her songs I fell in love with her. Her signature song was Rocking Chair which I knew well from an album of Maria Muldaur I have. I always liked that song.

I do notice in Youtube that when you search for singers, it brings up others, which is great. She's a good singer.
